Sugar production in Russia doubles last year. Factories processed 1.3 million tons of sugar beets , 400 thousand tons of sugar can be produced in August.

As of August 15, about 1.3 million tons of new harvest sugar beets were processed in Russia, 147.2 thousand tons of sugar were produced, which is almost twice as much as on the same date last year (76.7 thousand tons). Also, 47.5 thousand tons of molasses and 47.7 thousand tons of dried granulated pulp were produced.

Last year, by this time, 14 sugar factories were processing beets throughout the country. 33 enterprises should start working in August. The volume of sugar production this month is expected to reach 400 thousand tons, which is 30 thousand tons more than the same period last year. That in the current season, as in 2022/23, 65 plants should be processing sugar beet.

Sugar exports in the 2022/23 season amounted to about 335 thousand tons, sugar stocks at the end of the season reached about 1.19 million tons, more than a year earlier (917 thousand tons). Russia maintains the regime, according to which only 1 ton of sugar is allowed to be exported under export agreements in the new agricultural year. A government decree allowing for the conclusion of export agreements between sugar producers was adopted in April 2020. At the same time, companies individually retain opportunities for sugar exports.
